The purpose of a summer reading assignment is to help our students avoid the infamous “summer slide.” Studies have shown that kids lose significant knowledge in reading over summer break, which tends to have a snowball effect as they experience subsequent skill loss each year. Summer reading helps to avoid this!
Students will be assigned ONE novel to read over summer break. Within the first few weeks of school students will be given a multiple-choice quiz to assess the book that they were assigned to read.
Upper school students who do not have an English class first semester will still be required to take the quiz at an assigned date and time at the beginning of the school year (first semester).
